ASSIGNMENT #1
Title: Word Processing
Description: In this assignment, we were asked to demonstrate our knowlegde of what we learned about the word processing program Microsoft Word. In order to show this, we had to write a lesson plan. I chose to write a lesson plan for my 1st grade ESL student. This lesson was based on a read-aloud of a book with a corresponding activity. This lesson was directly associated w ith the NYS ESL Standards. In order to successfully complete the project, we had to include learning standards, a text box, a header and footer, a page number, an image, and bullets.
Reflection: I believe this assignment was an effective way of testing our k nowledge of word processing. I also learned some features of Microsoft Word that I was unfamiliar with, so I thought that was beneficial. For example, I was unaware of how to do the text wrapping, and I think it works very well when creating worksheets.
ASSIGNMENT #2
Title: Spreadsheet
Description: In this assignment, we were required to make a spreadsheet. Within the spreadsheet, we had to use some sort of formula or function to analyze the data and also write a paragraph to explain the spreadsheet.
Reflection: I was unable to choose a lesson plan for this particular project, so I chose to make a spreadsheet of grades. I thought this was a useful project, because I learned how to use the function in the program. I think this is a great tool to use for grading and converting data.
ASSIGNMENT #3
Title: PowerPoint
Description: We were asked to make a PowerPoint to either make a presentation about a topic or present a lesson. Within the PowerPoint, we had to include images, audio or video clips, hyperlinks, and organization. My partner and I chose to do our project based on cupcakes. This is not something we would use in our own classrooms. I guess it could possibly be used in a Home and Careers class.
Reflection: I enjoyed this project. I liked that we were able to do the presentation on a topic of our choice. Something that I was unfamiliar with before this lesson was the hyperlinking. I thought watching others present was also very helpful, because it gave me some ideas of what I could do in my own presentations.
ASSIGNMENT #4
Title: WebQuest
Description: In this project, we made our own website. This was a webquest, so it would be something we could do with our class or assign our students to do independently. The website has different pages within it that were: introduction, task, process, evaluation, conclusion, and teacher page. I chose to do this based on the life cycle of a frog. It was a pretty basic acitivity, so it could be used in kindergarten or first grade. It relates to NYS Science Standards.
Reflection: I thought this was a good assignment. Not only will I be able to use this webquest, but I will also be able to create more webquests to use in the future with my students.
